I created a place based body of work while attending Vermont Studio Center’s Artist Residency, July 2018. I quickly became aware of Paranormal Activity in the Johnson Vermont region and began to investigate. My investigation was split between 4 categories: Ghouls and Ghosts; Fairies, Gnomes and Woodland Sprites; the Lake Champlain Monster (Champy), and Natures Messages.
Following is some articles detailing my investigation to Fairy, Gnomes and Woodland sprites. These include found artifacts, photo documentation, scientific studies, and artist re-creations.
In the area known as Trail’s End along the mouths of waterfalls lies a Fairy Forest as stated by this sign.
I found what is most likely a Forest Oracle cut into ancient rock close to the waterfalls of Trails’ End

I discovered a happy face made of lichen growth on a tree in the forest close to Johnson, VT. Most likely the work of woodland sprites.
As an attempt to better understand this happy face phenomena, the artist has been growing moss in an artificial tree.

Entrances to subterranean lairs are found throughout the Johnson area, most likely Gnome in nature.

in the days after seeing “the sign of Hecate” (crescent moon and star) above Johnson, the Gihon river appeared to flow with blood.
This is a view into a creepy room that is only seen through a window that is covered up located behind a dresser, in a bedroom at VSC. There are no doorways to enter the room and it contains chairs that are nailed to the ceiling.

There are many reports of the haunting of Emily’s Bridge. It is supposed to contain the ghost of a young girl who hung herself after being stood up by her then fiance’
pay careful attention, this video was taken where claims of monsters’ eyes watching a local swimming hole. Three sets of bright are visible for a moment in the bushed area
Reports of Monsters lurking in the bushes next to a popular swimming hole have been debunked. Here is still from a video taken at night showing what some might have believed to be 3 sets of eyes.
The actual watchers structure as viewed during the daylight showing that it is, in fact, bat boxes. The eyes are merely white painted bat symbols
I created a replication of the Watcher’s structure closer to what the reports have claimed and installed it at the swimming hole to prove to the public the truth behind these claims.
